The traditional, hand-made Li textile techniques have been utilized by women of the Li ethnic group of Hainan Island, China for over 3000 years to make clothing and other daily necessities. The dye used comes from wild or domestic plants, and it is the most sustainable way of making textiles.  It is known as the most ancient and complex form of cultural craftsmanship.  Due to the decline in the number of women commanding the necessary weaving and embroidery skills, UNESCO has included it on its intangible cultural heritage list.
